There.com, a kinder, gentler MMORPG

A note before we begin: There.com is currently in a Beta stage, so some of this may eventually be rendered obsolete...but what isn't?

There.com, It's a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). It's really a place to chat and hang out with friends more than a Role Playing Game but its still fun, even if you're antisocial.

Things to do in "There": You can chat, this is a big portion of the experience. The in game chatting includes many emotions, which are depicted by your avatar. At first you can choose to have a female or male avatar, then in game you can change your appearance to suit your needs. For instance, if you wish to be fat/skinny, black/white or tall/small you can. "There" features "There bucks" or T$. They sell these (for real money) but you can still make money by other means, which I shall go into later. With your T$ you can buy clothes, vehicles, furniture, club houses and various other things to make your life in "There" interesting.

Clothes: You can purchase a variety of clothing for your avatar; it ranges from shirts, shorts to sandals.

Vehicles: You can buy many vehicles, such as, hoverboards, hoverbikes, hoverboats, jetpacks and buggys. You can participate in races with these vehicles and get your name on the scoreboard if you win or you can just travel around the islands.

Paintguns: If you're into deathmatch or team deathmatch, paintguns are for you. You can't die in "There" but in a paintgun match you get points for shooting the other players, personally I haven't tried them so I have no idea if it's good or not.

Club Houses: If you join or create a club you can rent a club house, these are just houses placed around the islands of "There", you can decorate your house with furniture and hold club meetings.

Auctions: If you look in the auctions, you can get a lot of cheap gear or you can sell an item of which you have become bored of or simply if you need the money.

Developers: You can become a developer, this means you can create content for "There" and sell your product via the auctions. You can make clothes, hoverboards, furniture and/or buggys. You're pretty much limited to those few things but if you want to make money or give your items a personal touch, becoming a developer is for you. You have to know a bit about texturing but it shouldn' t be too difficult to pick up if you're a beginner.

If you become a developer, you have to pay a certain amount (in T$). When you first join "There" you get T$10,000 so you can use that. Once your product has been approved you can sell your items for profit. Before long, you'll have T$ coming out of your ears (assuming your product sells) so you can develop more items or buy stuff from the shop.

At first I was a bit dubious, I've never really been a fan of chatting games or in fact MMORGPs but after I found out about the developing part of the game, I was hooked.

So all in all if you want to chat/make new friends, fly a hoverboard/bike/boat etc then this game is for you. If you are more inclined to hack and slash people I would say look for another game.

Currently "There" is in public beta stage and you have to sign up and be approved before you can play but I recommend it.
